Each student in the College must complete an Academic Enrichment Experience.

These experiences may include mentored research, supervised internships or education abroad. Below are the courses that will satisfy this requirement in the Agricultural Economics major.

   

AEC 395 – Independent Study in Agricultural Economics.

Students may work with an Agricultural Economics faculty member on a research or independent study project. A proposed independent study plan of learning objectives and outcomes must be submitted prior to registration. Students are required to participate in the fall symposium or complete a 3 Minute Presentation on their experience. Prerequisites: Completed 60 credit hours prior to registering for AEC 395 and the student must earn a C or better in one of the following courses: AEC 303AEC 302, or AEC 305. 1-3 credit hours.
  

AEC 396 – International Studies in Agricultural Economics.

Students participate in a university-approved study abroad program or an approved international study tour in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment or additional international opportunities pre-approved by the director of undergraduate studies. Students are required to participate in the fall symposium or complete a 3 Minute Presentation on their experience. 1 credit hour.
  

AEC 399 – Experiential Learning in Agricultural Economics.

Students are required to participate in the fall symposium or complete a 3 Minute Presentation on their experience. Students participate in an internship or field or community-based experience. A learning contract must be submitted prior to registration.  Prerequisite: Completion of 9 hours of agricultural economic or economics courses, permission of instructor and Director of Undergraduate Studies. 1-6 credit hours.
   

AEC 580 – Special Problems in Agricultural Economics.

Directed independent study of a selected problem that generally is sustained over an entire semester, requires data analysis, and results in a significant written product suitable for publication. May be repeated to a maximum of six credits.
