Agricultural Economics

With an increasing number of jobs requiring an interdisciplinary set of skills from more than one industry or area of expertise, our Agricultural Economics track option is an increasingly popular choice for students who wish to complete a minor in other areas of study such as plant science, animal science, sustainable agriculture, community and leadership development, and many more.

A prime example of an interdisciplinary education in the workplace would be an animal pharmaceutical sales representative. These positions benefit from a broad background in agriculture, as well as specific education in animal science, business management, marketing, and sales.

The possible combinations of majors and minors are seemingly endless and flexible to students' career interests.

The job market is broad for graduates from this track with potential positions including:

  • Sales Representative
  • Vet Clinic Manager
  • Agricultural Communications Specialist
  • Agricultural Marketing Manager
  • Farm Business Analyst
  • Plant Manager/Superintendent
  • Payroll Administrator
  • Budget Analyst
  • Purchasing Manager

4-Year Plan

A 4-year plan helps students plan their semesters and courses and compare coursework requirements between our different track options. The 4-year plan for the agricultural economics track includes credit hours for students to complete a minor in another area of study.

Advanced Studies

Our third track option offers the most flexibility and ease for students, if desired, to complete a double major (e.g., from the College of Business and Economics) or enroll in the University Scholars Program (USP).

The University Scholars Program (USP) offers students the opportunity and challenge of integrating their undergraduate and graduate or professional courses of study into a single, continuous program leading to both a baccalaureate and master’s degree. The USP aligns particularly well with the UK Honors College requirements as well. Don't wait, talk to your advisor in the fall of your third year to plan your courses.

Possible positions include:

  • Economic Analyst
  • Econometrician
  • Public Administrator
  • Investment Analyst
  • Economic Development Coordinator

4-Year Plan

A 4-year plan helps students plan their semesters and courses and compare coursework requirements between our different track options. Students in the advanced studies track will coordinate to select courses to complete prerequisite requirements or requirements for an additional major.
